El protagonista de esta novela es Charlie Lair, un chico que acaba de perder a su madre y a quien atormenta una serie de terribles pesadillas. La aparición de su madrastra Charlotte no hace sino perturbarlo aún más, sobre todo cuando esta extraña mujer se lo lleva junto con su padre y su hermano menor Jack a vivir a una tenebrosa mansión de color morado. Dicha construcción oculta muchos secretos y reserva terrores inimaginables para Charlie. The appearance of his new stepmother, Charlotte, only makes matters worse, especially when she takes him along with his father and younger brother to go live in her purple mansion. Such a place hides many secrets and unimaginable terrors behind its walls, forcing Charlie’s nightmares to slowly leak into the waking world. However, the young boys manage to attack these terrors with the help of curious characters they meet along the way.
