En “El velo alzado”, nueva traducción del autor chileno Antonio Díaz Oliva, hay un narrador que descubre algo anormal; en su caso, la habilidad para leer el futuro y también los pensamientos ajenos. Aunque claro: lo que al principio puede ser una maravilla, luego se vuelve una pesadilla. Eliot parece decirnos, en esta novelita, que necesitamos un velo para poder interactuar con los demás; de otra forma, todos seríamos como Latimer, a quien le repugna lo que ve en las mentes ajenas.

Although, of course, what at first may be marvelous later turns into a nightmare. Eliot seems to be telling us, in this short novel, that we need a veil to be able to interact with others; otherwise, we would all be like Latimer, repelled by what he sees in the minds of others.
